There is so much more that happened on our trip to New York City. We were able to take two nights off to go experience the culture of the city. We saw Les Miserables on Broadway and did some evening touring at the Empire State Building. We ate at some incredible restaurants. We shopped during our day time breaks at Macy's and even visited the Statue of Liberty. It was an incredible trip!
Some other FUNNY FACTS about the trip......
We had several sponsors from the school (who were not musically inclined) that helped us in our fund raising efforts. During one interview on the local radio station, one of these sponsors told the radio audience that we were learning a musical piece called "Dew Ruffles" Requiem. She completely mispronounced it. We did not correct her on live radio and figured the population of our country town would not know the difference anyway.
I could not say I had visited New York without trying the classic New York style cheesecake. I had never liked cheesecake, but thought I better at least try it. I fell in love with it immediately. My love affair with cheesecake began at a quaint little diner in NYC.
We looked like a huge tourist group, buying up all the "Big Apple" and "I <3 NY" shirts we could get our hands on.
The subway was not as scary as they make it look in the movies, but there was just as many "interesting" people as they show.
My whole group stood outside the David Letterman show just for me because my dad and I were huge fans and had watched his show together for years. We saw the theater, but unfortunately did not see him.
Another group that was staying in the same hotel got caught partying with alcohol on the night before the performance and were not allowed to go back on the stage at Carnegie Hall. They had to sit in the audience and watch after all their hard work.
For the performance, I was chosen as the hair stylist. I did so many up-dos that night. But I did not have enough time to spend on my own hair. All my friends looked so much more fabulous than I did. Lesson learned: do your hair and make up first before your friends get in line!
My feet were so tired from all of the week's walking, that my feet were killing me during the performance. I had brought the highest heels I had in my closet! I took them off during the performance because it was going on forever. I almost didn't have time to get them all the way back on before we exited the stage. My biggest accomplishment is that no one noticed!
They took us on a river dinner cruise after the performance. We were all so elated from our experience at Carnegie Hall that we did not even take in the cruise experience. None of us could tell you what gourmet food they served. Plus, our feet were still killing us since we were still in formal wear.
We all slept the entire flight back to Texas, worn out from our Big Apple experience.
